Quote above is from movie clipped below, Thomas Crown affair. Just to place you, the movie is about a woman (who has everything), chasing a man (who has everything), chasing art (and apparently happiness in this case, even though they have everything, they don't have each other).
As some of you may have read on my other blog, I will be going to see Gloria Steinem speak on Monday, and I'm pretty excited about it.
What does that have to do with Rockstardom you might ask?
Well, for starters, Rockstardom is still a man's business. Although there are lots of women working their way up (and many who came before us), our numbers still don't equal those of men in this field, and we sure as hell don't get a fair shake by any means.
I've been chatting lately with a rep from Sony/BMG about the possibilities of working with them. It's been frustrating to say the least, that each time this guy so much as whispers that he will do something for me, I'm asked for "favors" up front. I won't dignify them with repeating, but christ, you know, I doubt there's a single guy out there who has been asked by a label rep to send in dirty pictures of himself before he'd be considered. And that just pisses me off.
I've been asked to submit pictures to the Suicide Girls, but I'm just not sure I wanna work for that corporation... I mean, I've got a hell of alot more going for me than my pretty face, and a body.... And besides, I'm in good shape, but I'm realistic, not plastic.
"Any woman who chooses to behave like a full human being should be warned that the armies of the status quo will treat her as something of a dirty joke. That's their natural and first weapon. She will need her sisterhood." - Gloria Steinem
While I believe that's true....I'd rather just start my own thing, than make a suicide pact.
Welcome to the Red Stocking Brigade ladies... and gentlemen of course. Comment me to be added!
