A sow by any other name….

Is a salt dough pig.

Well, Christmas is coming up, despite the lack of snow which would traditionally herald the season, I am managing to pull my act together, and engage in preparations, and enjoy the feeling that comes from patiently executing the steps required to ensure our tidings are gay.

I bought Christmas cards… I don’t normally send them out, but I figured I should be doling out as many greetings as I can, it’s pretty much all I have. I was gonna get like a 16 pack, but ended up with 50, let’s see how many I can give away… I’m writing them today….

And I have a herd of salt dough pigs.

It has become an annual custom in our house to engage in the crafting of salt dough ornaments to give as gifts to people we are fond of, and particularly grateful for. We have started playing with this tradition, and change the shape of our cutouts annually. This year we landed on a pig. I was hard pressed to find a link between swine, and Christmas, aside from the likelihood of there being one present at the Saviors birth in the barn.

(side note, just heard my mother screaming “Were you born in a barn?” in my head, and now I’m thinking that it mighn’t be a bad thing to scream back “YES!”)

What I found truly reflected to me the meaning of what Christmas represents, and what my little gifts are really worth.

A token of submission shaped in abundance.
