I did it!!!!!

I still can’t believe it, and it’s gonna take more than a pinch to
convince me… but I managed, *against all odds*, to get my sorry ass
into the ACC last night to ride the storm that is now The Cure.

(Universal Music Canada is about to get a strongly worded letter from
me about all this)

At 5:30 pm last night (I’d given myself a 5pm deadline to give up all
hope)… two 2nd row, smack dab in front of Porl, no one sitting in
front of us taller than me, seats… land right in my lap :) Thank you
my benevolent angel.

Google had given me a word of the day eariler on, paean. I’d hardly
been in the mood to sing songs of praise all day… I spent most of it
bemoaning the fact that I still didn’t know how I was gonna get there.
It couldn’t have come together any better… the universe just lined
herself up for me, and there I stood, second row, watching a scene
I’ve seen so many times before… with all the same players…

The view was awesome, and we got amazing pics, a lil bit of footage
*bites finger* (naughty girl am I!!!! stealing from them who feeds my
spirit).

I heard some songs that are once in a lifetime live opportunities…
those of you who were live Cure virgins last night got *alot* of
treats. I was MOST impressed… by Killing an Arab… Grinding Halt
(wasn’t that a b-side? I mean… holy fuck).

Robert and the boys spoke to us heart and soul for the usual 3 hours.
Never a disappointment.

Although I didn’t experience the usual rush that I do when I see them.
Of course… I’ve given alot of thought as to why.

1. I’ve done it a bunch of times now… not too much *new* anymore
2. I’ve met Robert, and I was close enough to the stage to see every
little expression on their faces… I know they’re human already…
I’ve lost the god complex
3. The sound really isn’t that great that close up…
4. I’ve been courting musicians intimately for three years… I’ve
seen how the magic happens… felt it…

Aww shit there was alot of magic going on last night, but I couldn’t
feel it for some reason… I only broke into tears once…during
lovesong. Cause the gold ring last night was the face time with the
band, and I didn’t get that.

I got eye contact with Porl, he looks so awesome and happy it’s
amazing. I’ve watched him evolve over the years into this beautiful
being, it’s been a privilege to watch. Confidence? ha… the man is a
god on guitar now… the absence of keys, while notable, wasn’t
missed, he did such an awesome job of bringing those lines in on the
guitar it just hit you like needles through your skin. I’m totally
digging the ink work he’s done on his chest. And the makeup *blushes*.
He noticed my mask and pointed out his makeup *smiles*.

I didn’t get to see much of too Simon from my end of the stage, but I
caught him smiling really wide a couple of times (he’s always so
serious), which made me happy.

Jason delivered a perfect performance… and mounted cameras
apparently on his kit!!!… gee… I wonder who thought of that? (on a
side note, and just cause I’m a bitch like that, I’m gonna stick my
tongue out at Doug Hell). The visuals during Shake Dog Shake were so
incredible, you felt just like you were in Orange (France that is).

And Robert…. Whaddya want me to say? I’d gush some more about
wanting his babies, but I don’t think so. He and I met back in 2004
(it will be the anniversary of our meeting on the 21st). He’s very
shy. When I attended Curiosa in 2004, I could have sworn he made eye
contact with me. I watched him intently last night (for the parts of
the concert I opened my eyes…) Keep in mind I’ve been observing this
*animal* for longer than I’ve been with my husband…lol.

I watched him look at every single face in that crowd. He’s always
been rather reticent, hiding behind makeup and hair and a mike and
whatnot… I’ve watched him slowly come out of his bubble with the
crowd over the years.

You have to at least figure they’re as awed by us as we are by them.

Last night was the warmest, most playful, most demonstrative Robert
I’ve ever seen. He did literally take a moment to look at each face,
spent much less time looking down at his guitar, did a whole bunch of
dancing, the chemistry with the band is so gelled…

Well, I say looked at every face…

I had the best laid plans this side of America, but I must have dialed
the wrong number cause I didn’t get a look, despite being very
obviously in front of him.

Hmph. Maybe he just didn’t recognize me in my mask…lol…

*****

We all have songs that we have our hearts set on when we head out to
see live bands, and the one I waited to hear all night was “last
dance” (a woman now standing indeed…).

They didn’t play it.

Thank god, cause I don’t think I’d ever wanna stop dancing with The
Cure…. but we all know it can’t last forever…

Or can it?

My favorite shot of the night
