Every little thing has a meaning, and if you buy into what Einstein says, it’s all relative.
A few weeks ago I went to the beach with the kids to check out Family Day. There was lots of entertainment, the sun was shining, and everyone there seemed happy. The kids and I settled by the water, away from all the business, so we could enjoy some of what mother nature offers us for free.
Boy did we get a treat….

They were the smallest little things there… so small in fact I imagine most people didn’t notice them. I wouldn’t have were it not for my habit of bending over the water to collect rocks. I caught sight of one struggling on it’s back, and as I wondered what the hell a single ladybug was doing in the water drowning, I found that they were all over the damned beach…. it was like a carpet.
I immediately ran up to show Frannie, who started helping me salvage them out of the water.
You can’t imagine what it’s like to spend like 20 minutes saving ladybugs out of the lake, then to sit back to appreciate your work, and there’s buddy walking right on the little ladybug carpet in his sandals. I could feel each crunch.
I came across some interesting facts about ladybugs when searching:
The “lady” in ladybug refers to the Virgin Mary. In fact, in German the insect is called Marienkafe (Mary’s beetle). Mythically, Mary sent ladybugs in response to farmers’ prayers.
A mother will not eat so much that there is insufficient food in an area for her offspring. Also, she will lay more unfertilized eggs in a clutch, for larvae to feed on upon hatching, when aphids are limited.
Ladybugs do mate; when you see one on top of another, that’s what they’re doing. But they don’t interbreed and couldn’t if they wanted to. Females emit species-specific pheromones to attract males. As well, their parts fit together like a puzzle. An Asian male ladybug’s key won’t fit into a Canadian female ladybug’s keyhole, figuratively speaking.
Ladybugs can migrate hundreds of kilometres by riding on the wind.
Ladubugs are often associated with luck… and good fortune.
That poor guy is gonna have the worst luck in the world having crushed all those ladies…..
