You should know, beforehand, that I am NO gardener. I am in fact
known in the plant world as the harbinger of death, however, I seem to
have managed to acquire some skill in the art of late. We’ll see when
the harvests start coming in.
I have planted a bunch of things, some I know of, others I don’t (or
didn’t) such as Nasturtiums. I can’t pronounce the damned word, but
they looked pretty on the package, and they come in with these awesome
Talos 4 looking leaves (you trekkies/ers out there will understand).
Come to find out these aren’t just flowers, but in fact herbs, and the
whole thing is edible! Yes, I can eat everything except the stem,
including the leaves, buds, AND blossoms! I’m told that I can stuff
them and do all kinds of other lovely sounding culinary things with
them. Apparently they have a peppery taste, and the more sun they get
the spicier… Mine are happily sitting on the equator of my balcony
and only see in the shade but a few minutes per day around high
noon….
I’m also told they have medicinal properties. To be honest, I’m
growing an entire medicine chest this year, but that’ll be fodder for
another note. For more on Nasturtiums and their fascinating
properties:
