This was a response to a thread addressing the why’s and wherefore’s of referring to governing bodies by their leader’s name. One of the more interesting questions I’ve been posed by an elected official of late.

At this point in time, considering that ruling houses have *always* been named for their leaders… Tudors being a fine example… Christianity another….. we must accept that it is a founding principal of any governing body to embody itself within one person.
To emit dissenters upon sight is essential to the survival of that body. A phalanx requires that all function as one… and even Christ himself commands us to cut off offending members of our own bodies.
It’s a part of our social makeup to associate a leader with it’s movement… he or she is after all, the one who loses their head, heart, and soul to it. I guarantee none of these leaders can possibly be held accountable for any of his words, they’re made up of the ideas of so many… I can recall one of my most strenuous moments as a leader, when I was negotiating the cops, I distinctly heard words belonging to Fox, John, and Kevin coming out of my mouth.
That doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t take personal responsibility, and keep themselves accountable. If you are so graced to place yourself on such precarious pedestals, you must always remember what grace put you there, and demonstrate that grace wherever you go.
Keep in mind the tremendous spiritual, physical, and psychological demands on these men and women who hold public office, and govern our lives, the weight of many on one, and you will understand the meaning of losing one’s head in our historical context. I guarantee a fall from grace so far feels just like the weight of a blade, and engenders weighty psychological scars.
Since removing spirituality from government (go back to the reformation) there has been an erosion of personal standards among men (read women as well) who are entrusted by god with the care of their people.
For lack of a proper example to follow, politics (much like the religious insitutions it replaced) has become more about business and less about the perpetuation of the human race…
End of the day it’s up to the men and women who manage these people to rise up and demonstrate the model of leadership we desire. A bottom’s up approach if you will.

I admire your efforts to muster your people Brian, I believe educating the masses about their role in our society is key if we are to be a people worth leading.
