When truth becomes reality….

I was out at the food bank today.

It took all the strength I had and a friend or two to push me in the behind to go venture out to obtain the nourishment I need to even think of holding hope. My body has minimum requirements in order to remain remotely useful to me as a tool. This… is a biological fact.

I have spent the last few days in spiritual bankruptcy… I have been crying for at least 24 hours straight. i find it miraculous the way the human body can produce… without taking in. Somehow… when you put fluids in me… more fluids come out.

Could there be a wellspring inside me?

So, last shred of hope, we head out to Simcoe Hall. We arrive to find crowds being turned away, and a man and his dog on the step. He’s dejected but “miffed”. He informs us that the place is closed, has been closing early for the last three days, and that his girlfriend was inside having a fit over their third visit this week to try and get food.

They are closing early because they don’t have enough food to hand out.

Hmph.

We venture uptown to the Salvation Army and find the same story, and a crowd the size of the KISS army lined up outside the soup kitchen. It was going to be another hour before the volunteers there will have processed their foodbank crowd.

I will have supper tonight, because I am lucky enough that I have people that I can reach out to in an emergency…

Yesterday I refused food because to eat would only bring about a stronger wave of hunger.

More pain.

I was told yesterday that I need help managing my anger.

If I wasn’t so hungry, I might agree.

Feed them and they will come…

We are harboring a great cancer in our society. As a nation, the newborn glow is now gone from our cheeks, and we have nothing left to do but blush crimson with shame at the state of our adult affairs.

If you examine the resources (yes, resources… humans… are a resource) we have at our disposal, the waste is shameful.

There are able bodied (and keen minded) men and women starving to death in our country. It is unacceptable that we should have third world conditions in communities that are “thriving”.

Do you have any idea what it’s like to hear the man on the radio tell us that the economy is turning around…. when you haven’t eaten in two days and the food bank is closed for over use?

When you run into teenagers trying to offload collectibles on a store owner to buy a loaf of bread…

I’ve heard of men committing suicide, losing their wives, and children, who are now in the streets roaming looking for something to do. Anything. Women without husbands… children without fathers…

I wonder if you’d be angry…. and I wonder if you’d lash out?

Those responsible for our lives….are staring us in the face everyday and completely ignorant to the fact that we are a walking army of ghosts…

Unless you give us substance.–
